VW Golf Mk2 Edition One

Dark Burgundy Pearl Effect (Aubergine) VW Golf "Edition One"

The "Editon One" was produced between 1989 and 1991, and was available as a specification upgrade to the regular Golf GTI, the GTI 16v and the supercharged G60. 12,000 examples were made, all in left hand drive (we never got them here in the UK). It could be had in either three or five door variants.

The specification differences over the regular model include:

  • Colours: Metallic Quartzite (Pearl Grey), Dark Burgundy Pearl (Aubergine) or Black metallic.
  • An "Edition One" sticker on the corner of the bonnet
  • Removal of the red GTI trim around the radiator grille
  • BBS RM012 two piece split rim wheels
  • Round "Wolfsburg Edition" emblems on the wings instead of the side repeater indicators
  • Mirrors painted in body color
  • G60-spec wider wheelarch flares all around (from January 1990)
  • Partially darkened tail lights
  • Front white indicators
  • The VW logo on the back in black
  • Power steering with four-spoke steering wheel
  • Gearlever knob and handbrake grip covered with leather
  • Mauritus Blue interior trim (unless leather specified) with matching carpet, door cards and boot area.
  • For the 3 door: Chromalux glass on the rear windows with a Siglachrome coating
